    Jerrytron, Jr.

If you haven’t been to the AAC, the new HD screens are pretty ridiculous. They don’t hold a stick to that monster Jerry Jones has in Cowboys Stadium, but they’re still pretty awesome.

    A Fool’s Bet

A long time ago (probably around 2004, after the Lakers lost in the Finals to the Pistons, and after the Lakers traded Shaq), my friend Shaariq and I were talking a little NBA basketball over IM.  I don’t remember the specifics of the conversation, but I’m sure it involved a little heckling on my part about the Lakers loss and offseason situation.  Being the biggest Dirk hater in the world, my friend offered this bold prediction (and I paraphrase):

Kobe will win another title before Dirk wins his first.

The bet was simple: if Dirk wins a championship first, Shaariq has to wear a Dirk jersey.  If Kobe wins his 4th before Dirk wins his 1st, I have to wear a Kobe jersey.

Of course, things were looking pretty good for me.  2006 rolls around, and the Mavericks make it all the way to the Finals.  Needless to say, it was not meant to be.

2009 is here, and Shaariq is kind enough to remind me of our friendly wager back in 2004.  It’s time for me to pay my dues:

My punishment for losing a bet

My punishment for losing the Kobe/Dirk bet

Don’t get me wrong, I’m a Mavs fan, but I’m not a Kobe or Laker hater by any means.  I’m happy for them; I just wish the Mavs had capitalized on their golden opportunity in 2006.

Anyway, consider my crow eaten, the music faced.  Until next time, go Mavs!

Well, that was a pretty crappy way to end my love affair with the Dallas Mavericks. Back to being an armchair fan.

The Mavs looked good for about three quarters last night. Then, we got demolished in the 4th quarter (and settled for too many jumpers, as usual). Something is not quite right, but it’s still early.

    Moving On

Well, it looks like the Mavericks have a new coach. I’m not completely sold on Rick Carlisle, so I’ll be taking a wait and see approach. He is bringing in several of his own assistants (former head coaches), so as a staff, maybe they’ll be able to fully utilize Kidd’s strengths… and bring back the old Josh Howard.

I’m actually more interested in seeing what happens with the roster. My brother is calling for a complete overhaul, but I think they’re going to try to build around Dirk and Jason Kidd. I’m not sure if the other players are “safe”, but I don’t want to see Brandon Bass go anywhere. That guy was a stud this past season, and I think he’ll get even better.

Mikey and I decided to renew our season tickets, again. Maybe the offseason will give us something to look forward to next year.

    Go Mavs!

Jessica and Romo broke up. I think there’s something to be said about this.

I feel like the after effects of the Cowboys season rubbed off on the Mavs and so I would blame Jessica for the erosion of the Mavs season.

T-mac also will take the blame.
