    So You’re Telling Me There’s a Chance

I think Dirk, along with the Mavericks faithful, finally woke up tonight. That was definitely the most electric first-round game I’ve ever been to. You would’ve thought we were fighting for the championship the way the fans were yelling. Our defense still isn’t quite there yet, and the Warriors are still hitting some incredibly tough shots. That said, it’s still ride or die with #41. If he doesn’t step up, it’s over.

It’s time to earn those MVP chants, Dirk.

    In Other News

You guys have probably forgotten about our Cali adventures, seeing as how I’ve delayed posting Days 2 through 8. Not to worry, I haven’t forgotten all three or four of you. I’ve just been a little preoccupied with some other things.

    Investing
Becoming a full-timer has changed my perspective a little on what I’m doing with my hard-earned money. With a little guidance from some good friends, I’ve been spending some of my free time reading (yes, crazy I know) about saving for retirement. As I tell my brother all the time, one of the worst things that can happen in life is a person outliving their money. Mikey then replies that he’ll just move in with me if that ever happens to him, which I find hilarious and disturbing at the same time.

Investing can be an intimidating subject to approach, but as I did more research and perused more websites, I found that it can be quite simple. It just requires a little bit of discipline, that’s all. More on that some other time.

    Command and Conquer 3
I was never a big fan of the C&C series, but this one uses the same engine as the LotR RTS games (I think), and it’s been surprisingly fun. Of course, this is only a holdover until Starcraft 2 comes out. :)

    Computer
The great thing about having friends who want the latest and greatest hardware is that I can usually get their old stuff for cheap. This, combined with the recent store closings of some local CompUSA’s, has netted me some pretty decent gear. My friends still give me a hard time for being behind the technology curve by at least 9-12 months, but that extra money saved can go towards more useful things (see above).

    Mavericks
Having the opportunity to go to every home game as been great, and Mikey and I have already committed for the entire playoffs as well as next season. That being said, what the heck is going on? Watching us struggle against Golden State has been painful. Just writing about it makes me sad.

Anyway, another Cali post is coming. Mikey and I really enjoyed our time out there, and we like a lot of things about Cali, but not the Warriors. Those guys are hosers.

    The Friendly Wager: An Update

Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you, Dirk’s newest fan:

    Quan’s New T-Shirt

The location: Bubba’s in University Park. The chicken’s better than the chain restaurants, but the traffic is so bad on Saturday, I don’t know if it’s really worth it. But to see Quan wear a shirt with Dirk’s big ol’ mug in front of it, priceless.

    Let the good times roll.

Put Your Stomach Where Your Mouth Is

In case you did not know, it’s going to be a pretty good week of Mavs basketball. We have the Rockets on Tuesday and The Lake Show on Thursday. My buddy Quan and I like to talk a little noise whenever the Rockets take on the Mavs, so after our latest round of verbal jousting, he made a interesting proposition:

    The Wager

The man knows my weakness! However, in the spirit of friendly competition, I accepted. So, if the Mavericks happen to mess this one up for me, you’ll be cordially invited to witness a once-in-a-lifetime event. I may just bring the Apocalypse upon us all.

Quan, I hope you like those Nowitzness tees.

I got the perfect shirt for you too, man. Too bad it’s not online. You’ll have to wait and see it in person.

    King’s Palm

If you have many unforced errors in your favor, isn’t it really just a product of defensive pressure? The Hornets couldn’t get away from traveling. For the Kings, it was the palming violation. I think that infraction got us 4 extra possessions easy. Not much else to say. The Mavs keep gunning out to a fast start and the opposition has a hard time catching up.
