    2007 Music Review

    In no particular order

    MeikoMeiko

    Single: Piano Song

My favorite cuts: Reasons to Love You, Sleep

Member of my “Jenny Lewis All-Stars”* (top 5 female, indie singer/songwriters likely to have or already have had their music on a prime-time TV show, ie: Grey’s Anatomy) Solid album overall. Could very well be my favorite from 2007.

Modest MouseWe Were Dead Before The Ship Even Sank

    Single: Dashboard

My favorite cuts: Missed The Boat, We’ve Got Everything

    Kanye WestGraduation

    Single: Stronger

My Favorite Cuts: Stronger, Everything I Am

Feels like two Kanye albums in one, and splits neatly right after Can’t Tell Me Nothing. Starting with Barry Bonds we hear a more experimental Kanye.

    FeistThe Reminder

    Single: 1 2 3 4

My Favorite Cuts: 1 2 3 4, My Moon My Man

I used to think Let It Die was better. That notion may have been pre-mature. Also a member of the Jenny Lewis All-Stars.

    WilcoSky Blue Sky

    Single: You Are My Face

My Favorite Cuts: Sky Blue Sky, Hate it Here

OK, this is my favorite of 2007.

    Honorable Mentions

    MAESingularity

    RadioheadIn Rainbows

    Sara BareillesLittle Voice

    SpoonGa Ga Ga Ga Ga

    Lupe FiascoThe Cool

Guilty Pleasure: The Graduate – Anhedonia

Song Everyone Loves: OneRepublic – Apologize

Franz Ferdinand award for catchiest song: Metro Station – Shake It

    Disappointing

Bloc Party – A Weekend in the City

Dashboard Confessional – Shade of Poison Trees

Agreed on the Meiko album. One of the best of ’07, and it was independently released! Well-written hooky songs, sparse production, relatable lyrics…this girl has a future.

    Luna Halo

    Luna Halo

Yup, the Luna Halo album has finally been released. And with that, I believe their long-winding transformation from eccentric, underappreciated CCM alternative band to ridiculously catchy pop-rock superstars is finally complete.

A lot of time has passed, so Luna Halo’s humble beginnings may be a distant memory to most and quite possibly unknown to many. Fans of the old Luna Halo may not know how to feel about their new direction at first, but hopefully they get over it. Otherwise, they’ll miss out on some excellent music.

Really, the only thing that’s the same from Shimmer is the lead singer and the band name. Otherwise, it really is a different band. So, give the “new” Luna Halo a try.

    2006 Music Review

What’s a New Year without the annual music review, right?

John Mayer – Continuum; The Village Sessions
Don’t act like you didn’t see this one coming.
